Founded by Takao Yamashita, the brand was names after the French folktale that celebrates the inner beauty of the human spirit and also symbolized rebellion against societal norms and parental disapproval. The creator, personally struggles with self-consciousness and familial rejection; which shaped the brand's ethos, evident in its avant-garde designs and fantastical themes. It driven by a need for honest expression, turned to fashion as a means of communication, drawing inspiration from subcultures like Hip-Hop and Punk.
