Born in 1962, Yasuyuki Ishii is a distinguished Japanese fashion designer and object artist. He began his career in the 1980s as an object artist, transforming found materials into artistic expressions. His background in a punk band influenced his affinity for decaying textures, leather, and metal hardware, elements that permeate his fashion designs. Ishii’s transition to fashion design included creating stage costumes and working under Guy Laroche, where he honed his garment construction skills. His eponymous brand, established in the late 1980s, is renowned for its avant-garde, distressed aesthetic, often incorporating leather and unique western-inspired elements. This particular shirt showcases a distinctive fusion of rugged Western motifs and gothic sensibility. Crafted in a black and white plaid cotton base, it features heavily distressed leather appliqués across the shoulders and chest, sharp, arrow-like detailing, and oxidized snap buttons.
