The Old Curiosity Shop (TOCS) is a London-based handmade footwear atelier founded in 1994 by Japanese-born shoemaker and designer Daita Kimura. Operating from the historic Old Curiosity Shop building on Portsmouth Street, Kimura developed a distinctive approach to footwear that combines traditional British shoemaking with the exaggerated, sculptural forms of London’s underground fashion scene. The atelier is closely connected to the legacy of pioneering British designer John Moore, whose footwear designs Kimura continued to produce following Moore’s death. Known for oversized proportions, unusual toe shapes, rugged construction, and highly individual silhouettes, The Old Curiosity Shop has become an influential name within avant-garde footwear, with its work also intersecting with designers such as Yohji Yamamoto and Alexander McQueen.
