  Born in 1962, American fashion designer Rick Owens is hailed as the designer of our generation. He is celebrated for his dark, avant-garde aesthetic and distinctive, sculptural silhouettes. Owens studied pattern making at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and launched his eponymous label in 1994. His career took off in the early 2000s when a Vogue stylist discovered his work, leading to a high-profile feature and collaborations with notable retailers like Barneys. The Spring/Summer 2020 collection titled “TECUATL”, inspired by his maternal grandmother's maiden name—Owens's mother hails from Puebla and is of Mixtec heritage—this collection was the first time he has used his work as a lens through which to explore his south-of-the-border roots.
