The brand name stems from the Beatles song “Revolution 9”, Number (N)ine founded in 1997 by the infamous Japanese designer, Takahiro Miyashita. He sought to articulate the feeling of sorrow through cult brand Number (N)ine. Americana and grunge inspiration are ubiquitous, and always find their way into the collections, Takahiro took references from the Western aesthetic with its well known artist, prominently known for his inspiration from Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix is also included. Jimi Hendrix is considered one of the best guitarist of the century and the most influential artist ever at large, known for his pioneering eccentric guitar sounds with a widely claim that he has single handedly change electronic guitar forever in his performance at Woodstock on 18 August, 1969. Notably playing the his famous song “The Star-Spangled Banner”, which he admittedly performing the whole gig while on acid. The particular Number (N)ine T-shirt acts as a tribute from Takahiro Miyashita for Jimi Hendrix’s attribution to music and political standpoint. Features a hand holding the American flag with Jimi Hendrix’s JM initials in the old English font.
