Number (N)ine, under Takahiro Miyashita’s creative direction, was a groundbreaking Japanese fashion label that blended rock-inspired aesthetics with avant-garde craftsmanship. For Autumn/Winter 2007, Miyashita unveiled the “Love, God, Murder” collection, inspired by Johnny Cash’s haunting themes of redemption and despair. This collection, a continuation of his exploration of Cash’s legacy, featured militaristic elements like side-buttoning trousers, balaclavas, and officer’s coats, contrasted with patchwork checks, felted wools, and layered textures. Models evoked lost souls with rugged, romantic looks. Through intricate treatments of materials, Miyashita created a wild, gothic homage to the American West, cementing his legacy as a visionary designer.
