Kozaburo Akasaka, born in Tokyo in 1984, is a distinguished fashion designer renowned for blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with Western fashion elements. After earning degrees from Central Saint Martins and Parsons School of Design, and working with Thom Browne, he launched his eponymous label, KOZABURO, in 2015. His designs, influenced by 1990s Tokyo street style and various music subcultures, feature precise tailoring and innovative textiles. In 2017, he received the LVMH Prize Special Prize, recognizing his unique contribution to contemporary fashion. Showcasing a pair of 3D Bootcut Pants in black sashiko fabric from the label, crafted from heavy-weight sashiko—a traditional Japanese quilting technique—the pants showcase a high-rise waist, slim fit through the hips, and a dramatic bootcut flare. The 3D tailoring creates a dynamic, spiraling leg shape, with curved seams and a slightly cropped length that enhances movement.
