On his 18th birthday, Jean-Paul Gaultier, the young fashion designer was hired by Pierre Cardin without having any prior professional training, kick starting an outstanding fashion discography that is spanning for over 50+ years and counting. From working at the prestigious Hermès in his early 20’s to running his first Haute Couture show from Spring/Summer 1997, the designer is known for his unconventional designs, which include inspirations from various subcultures, provocative imagery and even high art references like “Trompe-l’œil”; a term that refers to hyper realistic optical illusion of 3-D objects or spaces on a two-dimensional surface. Showcasing an extremely rare pair of Jean-Paul GAULTIER pants, noted as one of the first apparel that uses “Trompe-l’œl” technique.
