Issey Miyake was a legendary Japanese fashion designer known for his innovative approach to clothing and textile design. Born in Hiroshima in 1938, he founded his own design studio in Tokyo as early as in the 1970s, honing the art of blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with cutting-edge technology. His groundbreaking “A-POC” concept (A Piece of Cloth), was first introduced in 1997, minimized waste by producing garments from machine-made rolls of knit fabric, allowing users to cut along pre-determined lines to create customized pieces. This revolutionary approach empowered consumers to participate in the design process, redefining fashion’s relationship with creativity and sustainability.
