Hood By Air’s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, designed by Shayne Oliver, marked a pivotal moment in the brand’s fusion of streetwear, queerness, and futurism. Known for its aggressive silhouettes, full-body zippers, and bold prints, the collection drew direct inspiration from H.R. Giger’s biomechanical art, most notably seen in the skeletal back graphics and spine-like sleeve detailing. These anatomical motifs echoed themes of transformation, identity, and post-human aesthetics. Shayne used fashion as both armor and expression, challenging conventional ideas of masculinity and race. AW13 embodied a raw, dystopian energy—part luxury, part underground rave. Giger’s influence became a recurring visual language throughout HBA’s archive, helping define its techno-gothic edge and positioning the brand as a cultural disruptor within high fashion.
