Balenciaga SS 18 “Europa” ‘Dry-Clean’ Laminated Button Down Shirt

Demna Gvasalia, the creative force behind Balenciaga, has redefined contemporary fashion with his innovative vision. His Spring/Summer 2018 collection marked a pivotal moment in the fashion industry that year. Gvasalia blended haute couture with what it seems to be “mundane” day to day looks, creating a striking contrast that challenged conventional notions of luxury. The collection were taken place in the Bois de Boulogne park located in the heart of Paris, the looks featured some of the most “ridicule” details, models carrying kids in oversized silhouettes, exaggerated shoulders, and bold graphic elements, which are all iconic elements of Gvasalia's design language. He played with proportions, incorporating eclectic pieces like the notorious "Triple S" sneakers, size XXXL anoraks and jackets that looks like might be belonging of your grandad. Moreover, Gvasalia's subversion of logos and branding added an element of irony to his work, sparking conversations about consumerism and luxury. This crazy looking shirt were worn by a model in look 38/56 that was featured on the runway. A classic oversized stripe shirt with the ‘Europa’ motif that was being used within the season, notably being covered with heat pressed laminated plastic, resembling shirt in a dry clean plastic coverage. The plastic coverage is also removable to transform the piece to a traditional shirt with graphic; which is not recommended for the faint-of-heart consumers.
