Undercover was founded in 1990 by Jun Takahashi, a visionary designer with a passion for music and punk culture, by incorporating different references from that culture, the brand has successfully melts streetwear aesthetics with high fashion and present them in such uniquely beautiful way. Undercover’s Autumn/Winter 2003 collection, titled “Paper Doll”, is considered one of his most creative work to this date, is a reflection of Jun Takahashi’s unique view on paper dress-up dolls. Not only did the collection derive inspiration from the suits and dresses typically worn by these dolls, from the runway invitations sent out to guests to multiple runway looks featured a slew of different patterns, fabrics, and cuts, emphasizing an overall DIY aesthetic to each of the pieces, which reminiscent of children crafting clothes for their beloved dolls.
